It started with typing
the same thing all day.
Checking how much you have left should not be something you do forty times a day.
You know the move. You are mid-thought, the answer is close, and a small voice asks: how much have I got left? So you stop, switch to the terminal, type /usage, read a number, and try to remember what you were doing.
Five seconds, forty times a day. That is not a five second problem any more, and worse, it pulls you out of the exact moment where the good ideas live.
A number tells you a fact. A face tells you a feeling, and you read a feeling much faster. Wide awake means go ahead. Heavy eyelids mean maybe wrap this one up. Fast asleep means you already know what happened. You never really read it, you just glance.
And once there is a face up there, you start saying good morning to it, and you feel a bit sorry for it at 91%. The world got a slightly friendlier corner, which was honestly half the point.
